What is the Shining Star Club?
The Shining Star Club was birthed in February, 2008 as an outreach to the homeless and at-risk children in downtown Knoxville. Directed by God, it is based on Phil. 2:15 where God calls us to "shine like stars in the darkness", so we gather on the first Saturday of every month from 12-2 PM and teach the children what it means to do just that. We offer lunch, provide music, a scriptural based lesson, and play games to not only teach the Word and worship in a fun way, but to offer these special children unconditional love and Christian mentors to encourage their walk in Christ. Many of the children are "unchurched", and we hope to create a fun day to be Jesus with skin on! We do need volunteers or small groups to help provide lunch, craft, music, lesson, or puppet show that day. It's a great way for your families to serve together or your small group from church to do outreach ministry right here in Knoxville.
April Meeting
A special Thank You to Northstar Church who provided the meal, lesson, facepainting, & songs this month, and to Rocky Hill church and the Girl Scout troop who made over 1500 eggs for the children. Congratulations to Emmanuel who won first place, and Ricky who won second place in the Easter Egg hunt. A great day had by all!
New Adventure Bibles
Each child was so appreciative of a brand new Adventure Bible donated by Rocky Hill Baptist church! What perfect timing since the lesson was if we have faith as small as a mustard seed...! What better way to increase our faith but by being obedient to the Word of God!

Become a Mentor to one of the Shining Star Kids...
God works in such awesome ways! When we started this outreach, I never see the"big picture" so to speak, but that is the exciting part of walking in faith. This is His ministry, and I never know exactly what He's going to do!! More and more, we are seeing the volunteers taking such an interest to one or more of the children, and developing great relationships. Many children now have a Shining Star volunteer that they see outside of the first Saturday, and their relationships are just growing. God wants us to invest our time in someone else, by showing love, compassion, and being a great example of Christ in our lives. It's such a blessing to develop these special relationships because you end up being the one blessed since God expands your heart & fills it with so much joy!
